SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION OF
SOIL AND GROUND-WATER QUALITY AT
BEACON CARDLOCK STATION NUMBER 610
3300 WATERLOO ROAD
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
1.0 INTRODUCTION
During March of 1993, SSB Environmental Consultants, Inc , installed three monitoring wells at
IBeacon Cardlock Station Number 610 located at 3300 Waterloo Road in Stockton, California
Previously, in April of 1987, four ground-water monitoring wells had been installed at the site to
depths of approximately 65 feet Two of these wells are now dry due to a lowered ground-water
table The remaining wells, drilled to similar depths, could not be opened and are presumed dry.
The current investigation, which involves the installation of three monitoring wells on-site, is
designed to investigate soil and ground-water quality at the site
1.1 Purpose
This investigation was designed to evaluate whether gasoline range hydrocarbons remain in soil and
ground water at Beacon Cardlock Station Number 610 in Stockton, California
' 1.2 Scone of Work
During this investigation, three 4-inch diameter monitoring wells were installed in 10-inch borings,
to a maximum depth of approximately 90 feet below surface. Soil samples were obtained from each
monitoring well boring at 5 foot intervals Each soil sample was field analyzed for the presence
of gasoline range hydrocarbons using a photoionization detector (Model OVM 580B) Field
analysts readings are recorded on the boring logs in Appendix A Six samples from each boring
were submitted for laboratory analysis for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), and
total petroleum hydrocarbons using a gasoline standard (TPHg)
Each monitoring well was constructed with 20 feet of screened interval which penetrated to 15 feet
below the water table Each monitoring well was developed and purged Ground-water samples
were collected on April 1, 1993, for analysis for BTEX and TPHg from the three newly installed
monitoring wells Monitoring well MW-5 was resampled on April 16, 1993
After surveying each well head, the ground-water gradient and flow direction were evaluated, using
depth-to-ground-water measurements collected in April, 1993 The field and analytical data
Icollected during this investigation were compiled and are presented in this report
