}
r
May 10, 1987 AGS 86203-2
Cardlock Station X27 - Stockton, California
z,
ground water flow toward the southwest. Data from MW-4 is
Inconsistent with other data, including results of chemical
analyses of water samples. The value obtained is not thought to
represent static, equilibrium ground water conditions. The
F gradient calculation is based on water levels measured at the
time of sampling. The gradient can change considerably with
variations in local ground water usage.
This calculated gradient is consistent with subsurface ground
water flow directed southward, away from the Stockton Diverting
fi
L Canal located approximately 600 feet north of the site. The
canal represents a
P possible source of ground water recharge.
S
However, the gradient is not consistent with the direction
inferred by the San Joaquin Local Health District, which was used
in locating the wells. This necessitated the construction of MW-
4, which is located down-gradient from the tank cavity.
r,
CONCLUSIONS
Benzene was detected in ground water from MW-4 at concentrations
above action levels for drinking water established by the
California Department of Health Services. The detected values of
other hydrocarbon-constituents in MW-4 and in the other three
b wells are below action levels.
