Do not attempt to evacuate or leave your immediate area unless necessary or when told to do so by <br /> your supervisor or a member of the Emergency Response Team. <br /> 10. Check for injuries and initiate first-aid procedures if needed. Recognize and assist co-workers who <br /> are suffering from shock or emotional distress. <br /> 11. Use the stairway, not elevators, when instructed to exit the building. <br /> 12. Managers at your facility will assess the damage to your facility and provide you with further <br /> instructions. <br /> POST EARTHQUAKE PLANT CHECK LIST(MANAGERS AND OR SUPERVISORS) <br /> • Check for fires, gas leaks and or damaged electrical wiring. <br /> • Confirm that utilities are turned off at the main switches after checking first with maintenance personnel. <br /> • Confirm gas fired equipment is shutoff if needed <br /> • Check for sprinkler system leaks at the risers, cross mains, branch lines and sprinklers. Maintain as <br /> much fire protection in service as possible; shut off all domestic water valves to control leaking or <br /> broken piping. <br /> • In case of power outage, battery powered flashlights are to be used. DO NOT try the electrical switches <br /> if there is a flammable liquid and or gas present. DO NOT light matches. <br /> • Fallen materials, debris, glass, etc. should be cleaned up immediately IF it's safe to do so. <br /> • Hazardous chemical spills need to be reported to the maintenance team for proper clean-up according <br /> to the SDS sheets. <br /> • Take inventory of building equipment and document any equipment with significant damage by taking <br /> photographs. <br /> • implement contingency plans for utility outages. <br /> • Even though the main shockwave has passed, aftershocks could be just as damaging. Avoid tall <br /> structures, electrical power lines, and anything that could fall on you. The initial shock could weaken or <br /> damage these structures and aftershocks could cause extensive damage and increased risk to safety <br /> and health. <br /> If you are outdoors, move away from power lines, power poles, trees, walls, and chimneys to an open area. <br /> If you are on a sidewalk near a building, try to duck into the doorway to protect yourself from falling debris. <br /> BE CAUTIOUS. Have an expert check your home for structural damage and danger of collapse. Watch for <br /> loose or falling debris. Check for gas leaks. Sometimes your own nose can tell you if there is the smell of <br /> gas from a leak. If you cannot safely turn off the gas, contact your local gas company for help. <br /> On the Road <br /> Pull over to the side and stop. The vehicle may shake violently, but it stili is a safe place <br /> Lo- to be. DO NOT attempt to cross bridges or overpasses, as they may have damaged. <br /> Do not to park under overhead wires, on bridges or overpasses. Do not get out and <br /> move any electrical wires that may have fallen on the vehicle. YOU SHOULD STAY IN YOUR <br /> VEHICLE UNTIL THE SHAKING HAS STOPPED. <br />
