Christyne placed the aerosol can into the
Flammable HW tote. (IMG 7715-8)
Incompatible wastes shall not be placed in the same container, or in an unwashed container that previously held an
incompatible waste or material. A container holding a hazardous waste that is incompatible with any waste or other
materials transferred or stored nearby in other containers, piles, open tanks, or surface impoundments shall be
separated from the other materials or protected from them by means of a dike, berm, wall, or other device.
Immediately transfer or separate the oxidizer HW from the flammable HW to other containers or separate the
containers.
This was corrected on site.
This is a Class II violation.
Overall Inspection Comments:
Notes:
-At the time of inspection, the facility did not have a hazardous waste container designated for waste
nicotine/smoking cessation items in the hazardous waste storage area, as shown in the Dollar General
Environmental Compliance Program Training. Christyne Cahill, Manager On Duty, stated that expired tobacco
items, including expired nicotine cessation items, were recently mailed from the facility to a vendor, Nash Finch
Bellefontaine. After further discussion with John Salvino, Store Manager, it was unclear if the facility did in fact mail
expired nicotine cessation items to Nash Finch Bellefontaine. Provide the EHD with a statement documenting how
the facility manages expired nicotine cessation items.
An inspection checklist was provided to the facility operator on the day of inspection. The EHD has written the
complete report which replaces the initial checklist on 8/5/2019.
Complete and submit a copy of the Return to Compliance Certification form to the EHD with a statement
documenting the corrective actions that have been or will be taken for each violation, and any supporting
paperwork, by 9/4/2019.
Starting September 1, 2018, all in-office CERS help will be provided at EHD hourly rate($152).
