' KLEIN FELDER
File No 20-1008-52 A03
. July 6, 1994
1
I3 BACKGROUND
The site is located at 444 South Wilson Way in Stockton, California Two underground
' diesel storage tanks and the associated dispensers were excavated and removed from the site
on November 5, 1993 Analysis of a soil sample obtained from 3 feet beneath the former
dispenser location revealed concentrations of 0 01 mg/kg ethylbenzene, 0 011 mg/kg toluene,
0 075 mg/kg total xylenes, and 3,200 mg/kg Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as referenced to
Diesel (TPH-D)
' In a March 3, 1994 letter, Mr Doug Wilson of the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division (SJCEHD) indicated that the County will not recommend "final closure
without further investigation to determine the full extent of the soil and/or groundwater
' problem " Currently, groundwater is approximately 70 to 80 feet below the ground surface,
as indicated on the Fall 1993 Groundwater Depth Map published by the San Joaquin County
Flood Control and Water Conservation District
At the req ,
uest of the SJCEHD additional soil was removed from beneath the former
dispenser on April 26, 1994 At that time a soil sample was obtained from the bottom at a
Idepth of approximately 10 feet below ground surface (bgs) Chemical analysis of the sample
obtained, revealed a concentration of 15,000 mg/kg Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel
rBased on the concentrations of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-D) in the soil
at a depth of 10 feet, further assessment was necessary to determine the full extent of diesel-
affected soil Klemfelder was contracted by San Joaquin County Public Works Department
Solid Waste Division to attempt to further define the diesel-affected soil beneath the former
dispenser location Those services were to be addressed in this assessment of diesel in soil
This report presents the results of Kleinfelder's Assessment of Diesel in Soil of the former
Diesel Dispenser Area
1
Copyright 1994 Kleinfelder Inc Page 6 of 11
