PHS/EHD has the following comments for your
consideration.
One monitoring well, MW2, was installed on December 22, 1992 and was located
between the former tank pit and the on site domestic well which is currently in use. The
total depth of the well was 109 feet. Soil samples were collected at 40, 65, 90, and 95
feet. No total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) contamination was detected during
laboratory analysis; however, field screening of the sample collected at 90 feet did detect
13 ppm of organic vapors.
Groundwater samples were collected from MW2 on January 8, 1993 and analysis
detected contamination, benzene 1.0 ppb, TPH-gasoline 83 ppb (not typical gasoline).
Subsequent analysis utilizing EPA Method 601 detected halogenated volatile organic
carbons (HVOC) which exceed the State of California Maximum Contaminant Level
(MCL) 1,1-dichloroethene 120 ppb and trichloroethene 36 ppb. The report indicated
that all of the TPH-gasoline that was detected utilizing EPA Method 8015 could be
accounted for as HVOC. Please provide documentation from the laboratory concurring
with this finding.
PHS/EHD concurs with the recommendation to resample the well to confirm
groundwater contamination. The on site domestic well was last sampled December 26,
1991 and therefore, should also be resampled and analyzed utilizing EPA Methods 8015,
8020 and 601. Please schedule the next sampling event by April 8, 1993 with the
resultant quarterly report due May 19, 1993.
A Division of-San Joaquin County Health Carr Services .j
