PHS/EHD has prepared the following comments
for your consideration.
The report included the results of the recent installation of a vapor extraction well, VW1
and groundwater sampling event. The well was installed on April 4, 1994 and samples
collected during the installation evidenced soil contamination from 25-45 feet below
ground surface. The groundwater samples were collected on April 6, 1994 and
contaminants were detected in all monitoring wells with sufficient water to sample,
MW2 - MW4. The field notes for the April 1994 groundwater sampling event were not
included, but the field notes from the January 1994 sampling event were. Please submit
the field notes from the April 1994 sampling event.
The report included a recommendation to prepare an interim soil remediation plan
evaluating remedial options. PHS/EHD concurs that soil remediation will be necessary,
as well as groundwater remediation. Please proceed with preparation of an interim soil
remediation plan, but be aware that a groundwater remediation plan may be required.
The interim soil remediation plan should be submitted with the next quarterly report due
August 15, 1994.
If you have any questions, comments or wish to schedule a site inspection, please contact
Mary Meays, Senior RENS, of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane .
