1
ry
August 5, 1988 AGS Job No. 38033-1
Marlowe Properties, Stockton, California
GEOLOGY
The site is located in the Great Central Valley geomorphic
province of California on the ancestral delta of the San Joaquin
River. The Central Tvalley has been a sedimentary trough since
pre-Cretaceous time. Most of the pre-Cretaceous to mid-Tertiary
sediments in this portion of the valley are of marine origin,
while the late Tertiary to Recent sediments consist primarily of
continental deposits. Depositional and erosional sequences were
primarily controlled by fluctuations in sea level. Fresh and
brackish water lakes formed in the valley, resulting in the
deposition of lacustrine clay over extensive areas. Higher energy
environments, such as rivers and streams, resulted in the
deposition of channel sand and gravel.
The project site is underlain by very gently dipping Quaternary
fluvial sediments consisting of sand, silt, and clay. The
topographic surface in the area is slightly irregular with a
slight southwestward slope. The nearest surface water is the
Stockton Diverting Canal approximately 1 mile southwest of the
site. The canal is unlined and flows to the northwest. Flow data
_ forthe_canal obtained from the California Department of Water
Resources indicate that most of the annual flow occurs between
November and April of each year.
