23 October 1995
AGE-NC Project No 95-0104
' (approximately 11 feet per rule) directed S 78° E is generally to the southeast with a gradient at
approximately 0 0015, or approximately 8 feet per mile(Figure 3) Between April and July 1995, the
' ground water flow direction rotated 62' from northeast to southeast
' 4 2 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
During the April 1995 sampling, TPH-g was detected in MW-1 at 540 gg/l (parts per billion ppb)
Neither TPH-g nor BTE&X were detected in any other well during the April 1995 sampling
TPH-g, benzene, toluene and xylene were detected in MW-1 during the July 1995 monitoring at
concentrations of 570, 12, 1 6 and 17 ppb, respectively Benzene was also detected in the sample
from MW-4 at 0 5 ppb No TPH-g or BTE&X were detected in other wells during the July 1995
sampling Analytical results of TPH-g and BTE&X in ground water are summarized in Table 2 The
laboratory report and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix B
HVOCs were detected in samples from each well during both sampling events at concentrations
ranging from 0 75 ppb (chloromethane in MW-3, Apnl 1995)to 280 ppb(1,2-dichloroethane m MW-
1, July 1995) Analytical results of HVOCs in ground water are summarized in Table 3 The
laboratory report and chain-of-custody are included in Appendix B
' 43 ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF PURGED WATER SAMPLES
No TPH-g, benzene, ethyl benzene or xylene were detected in the three composite drum samples
Toluene was detected in composite sample WS-3 at a concentration of 0 44 ppb HVOCS were
detected in two of the three composite samples ranging from 0 62 ppb (1,2-dichloroethane, WS-2)
to 2 8 ppb (l,l-dichloroethane, WS-1) The Iaboratory report and chain-of-custody are presented
in Appendix C
5.0. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
Dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons in ground water has consistently decreased over the past year in
wells MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4 During the most recent sampling (July 1995) only toluene was
detected above the method reporting limits in MW-4 However, hydrocarbons continue to be present
in MW-1 It is likely that natural attenuation and the rise in groundwater have contributed to the
decrease in hydrocarbon concentrations in MW-2, MW-3 and MW-4
Several HVOCs continue to be present in each well on the property The source of these compounds
is questionable It is possible that they entered the ground water via the septic system on-site
