tti
Gemini Petrographic IM29 ations
SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN
As required by 29 CFA 1910.120, GPI has prepared a Site Health and Safety Plan(Appendix D) basad on
site condltlons and suspected contaminants. The Health and Safety pian was prepared by a staff geologist
and reviewed by the project manager. Our field work will be preformed In accordance with tho site specific
Health and Safety Plan, and GPI's In-house Health and Safety Manual.
TASK 2: SOIL SAMPLING
The purpose of Task 2 is to quailtativeiy assess the characteristics of site s4','.and to evaluate the existence of
sol]contamination.
GPI will notify the San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division at least 48 hours
before drilling the proposed borings. GPI proposes to drill one(1)soil boring yYlthin within the vicinity of the
underground storage tanks to a minimum depth of 40 feet(pre-1988 groundwater level)and to a maximum:.
depth at which at least two consecutive soil samples show no field evidence of contamfnatlon(estimated at
50 feet)at the location as shown in Plate 1. The proposed boring location would be downgradlent from the
excavated diesel tank and within the groundwater direction envelope In relation to the excavated gasoline tank.
The proposed boring In.this location would be within 10 feet of the excavated gasoline tank, and within 15.20
feet of the excavated diesel tanks. If contamination has occurred, either verticaliytransported by groundwater.
and/or precipitation or laterally migrated through the soil profile, the location of the baring would most likely
.., intercept the contamination, If any. . Detailed boring procedures, site and equipment decontamination
procedures, soil waste handling protocol are outlined In Appendix A. Solis encountered In the boring will be G
sampled, every five (5)feet,or at changes in iitholo -il
.V gy, or areas of obvious contamination to the maximum a
boring depth. If soil contamination is detected at the 40 foot level, drilling and sampling will continue until fieldr
evidence Indicates the non-contaminated soil has been reached and/or bedrock Is encountered. Confirmation
samples from the f[nal depth w1V be submitted to a state certified?a boratory for analysis.AHNUPhotoionization ,-
Detector(PID)will be used to screen the soil samples for hydrocarbon compounds and to guide selection of v
soil samples for analyses. The soil boring will he backfilled with a cementlgrout mixture and repair to the any
overlying structures will complete the sampling phase. p
TASK 3: LABORATORY ANALYSIS V°'
Soil samples will be delivered under chain-of-custody protocol to a state certified laboratory, The proposed
analyses will include Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons(as Gasoline)using EPA method 8015 and BTX&E EPA J
Method 8020(See Table 1), We anticipate using Superior Analytical Laboratory,Inc.of San Francisco as our
analytical laboratory, y X
TASK 4: DATA INTERPRETATION AND REPORT PREPARATION
GPI will review the results of Tasks 1 through 3 and assess whether or not contamination was discovered
during the preliminary Investigation: The types of contamination detected (If any) and locations will be
evaluated.
_ 3
