0a. a_ Come Environmental Compliance Consulting UNDERGROUND TANK REMOVAL PROCEDURES The actual tank excavations were performed by employee:; of Cozad Custom Trailer according to local fire Department protocol; The inert atmosphere tanks were transported from the site to salvage by the company Western Meter (2735 Tee r,:e Drive, Stockton CA.) The first tank to be removed on 28 April was the 1000 gallon leaded gasoline tank. Samples from the floor of the excavation (north & south) were obtained by Jeff Miller,[witnessed by Harlan Knoll of San Joaquin County Environmental] and transported, under Chain-of-Custody to California Water Labs in Modesto. The analytical results reported May 11 indicated contaminated soil at the north end of the excavation where TPH as gasoline was reported at 200,000ug/kg, [which ought to have been reported as 200 mg/kg] and total Xylenes at 5600 ug/kg, [which again ought to have reported as 5.6 mg/kg]. Total Lead (Pb) concen- u trations from north and south locations were comparable and should be con- sidered natural soil abundance; in fact, these concentrations were approximately half the concentration of lead in the evaporation/rainwater sump located on the far east perimeter of the property. When these results were communicated to me, I suggested that the floor of the excavation he removed another foot and samples taken. This was accomplished by Cozad employees and the sampling by Troy Williams of Uni-.ersal Engineering on 23 May 1989. The samples were transported under Chain-of-Custody to Precision Analytical Laboratory in Richmond; On 5 June, the returned analytical results indicated TPH as gasoline at 124 mg/kg. June 22, I sent another letter to Cozad indicating that perhaps another 18 inches should be excavated from the floor. June 27, the two underground diesel tanks were excavated and removed, four soil samples were obtained from the floor of this excavation by Greg Reed of Universal Engineering [witnessed by Darlene Reuss of San Jcaquin County Environmental] and transported under Chain-of-Custody to Groundwater - ---- -------Teclinology l:atioratory--inConcord�---All--foiir-samples-showed'-nothing-detectable as either diesel, gasoline or BTEX.
