Overexposure to these compounds can cause <br /> headache, dizziness, nausea, and eye, nose and throat irritation. Benzene is a known carcinogen. <br /> Permissible exposure limits (PELs) for BTEX compounds are 1, 50, 100, and 100 parts per <br /> million (ppm), respectively. PELs Listed are based on an 8-hour time weighted average for <br /> exposure to airborne compounds. The primary route of exposure for diesel and BTEX <br /> compounds is inhalation. <br /> FIRST AID: <br /> Inhalation -At first signs of headache or dizziness, remove victim from work area and give <br /> fresh air. if breathing has stopped, administer artificial respiration. Get medical attention <br /> immediately. <br /> Skin and Eye Contact - Flush eyes immediately with water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally <br /> lifting the eyelids. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected body areas with large <br /> amounts of soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing. <br /> Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Keep victim warm and at rest. Get medical attention. <br /> 3 <br />
