The samples collected at the 15, 20 and 25 feet below sub-grade at MW-1 and MW-2, and at 25,
30 and 35 feet below street grade were submitted for laboratory analysis Each soil sample was
sealed with Teflon film and plastic end caps, and transported in an iced cooler with chain-of-
custody documentation to Excelchem Environmental Labs (Excelchem), a state of California-
certified hazardous waste testing laboratory (Certification #2119) Excelchem analyzed each of
the soil samples for TPH-as-gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) by
' EPA Method 8020/8015M, and for MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether
(ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA) and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-
DCA) by EPA Method 82608 '
2 2 3 Groundwater Monitoring, Sampling and Analysis
On July 24, 2002, Ramage Environmental monitored and sampled the three wells Depth-to-
groundwater was monitored using a water level indicator capable of measurements to within 0 01
' foot Following groundwater level measurements, the wells were purged and sampled
The wells were purged with a pump and dedicated disposable tubing until at least three well
casing volumes have been removed and/or after groundwater temperature, pH and electrical
conductivity values have stabilized Groundwater was sampled from the wells using disposable
polyethylene bailers and laboratory-supplied containers Each sample container was transported
in an iced cooler with chain-of-custody documentation to Excelchem Excelchem analyzed each
groundwater sample for TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX by EPA Method 8020/8015M, and for MTBE,
DIPE, ETBE, TAME, TBA, and 1,2-DCA by EPA Method 8260B
2 2 4 Waste Storage and Disposal
' All waste soil generated during drilling was contained in four, 55-gallon drums On July 13, 2002,
to characterize the waste sod, Ramage Environmental collected four soil samples from the drums
(i e , one sample per drum) The samples were collected into stainless steel sleeves, sealed with
' Teflon® film and plastic end caps, and transported in an iced cooler with chain-of-custody
documentation to Excelchem Excelchem combined the four samples into one and analyzed the
' composite sample for TPH-as-gasoline and BTEX by EPA Method 8020/8015M, and for total lead
by EPA Method 200 7 Based on the analytical results, the waste soil was profiled as non-
hazardous waste by Allied Waste Industries, Inc under Approval #2231 On September 10,
' 2002, Kane Drum Removal transported the 4 drums for disposal to Forward Landfill in San
Joaquin County, California Copies of the weight ticket and non-hazardous waste manifest are
' included in Appendix C, and the laboratory reports are included in Appendix F
9
