The report shows low levels of
contaminants were found in the soil and groundwater in this latest phase of
investigation. MTBE was found in both soil and groundwater. This is the first
time 1,2-Dichloroethane was analyzed for in the soil and groundwater samples
obtained at the site and it was found in the grab water sample from SB-3. This
chemical was used in gasoline when the former underground storage tanks were
operated at this site. There is a California Water Service Well (#77) located less
than 1000 feet southeast of this site. Therefore, the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination must be determined. A minimum of three monitoring wells must
be installed to further investigate the contamination and to determine the
groundwater gradient and direction.
A work plan for installation of the monitoring wells should be submitted to EHD by
September 10, 2003.
if you have any questions contact me at (209) 468-3449.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Margaret Lagorio, Supervising REHS
Unit IV
c: CVRWQCB —Jim Barton
GHH Engineering —Tom Ballard
SJCADA— David Irey
