I would like to discuss the workplan with you, and I thought it
would be useful if I stated my concerns prior to talking with you on the phone. 1 have a regarding the
depth of the screen for the monitoring wells. In the first paragraph on page 2,you state that the borings
will extend ten feet into first groundwater, and then in the same paragraph you say the well screens will
extend five feet into the saturated zone. Did you inadvertently make this comment or did you intend to
put five feet of blank at the bottom of the screen? I would prefer a more traditional well that extends five
feet above groundwater and ten feet below.
The second question is about the placement of the wells. I looked at the quarterly monitoring report for
an adjacent site at 3230 North West Lane. The direction of groundwater flow based on information
derived from that site is about approximately parallel to West Lane. In the absence of other data, we
can assume that is the direction at the Jay's Mini Mart site as well. I would like to see the two
downgradient wells moved closer to the former fuel dispenser islands and located in a more directly
downgradient position. I am including a copy of the figure from the 3230 North West Lane report, which
is a public document is available for review.
The third question is regarding groundwater analyses. Are you aware that the Central Valley Regional
Water Quality Control Board will not close sites unless the groundwater has been analyzed for 1,2-
