Wetmore Street
Manteca CA 95336
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(SJCIEHD) has reviewed "Monitoring
Well Installation Report and Quarterly Report—First Quarter 2003" (Report)that was prepared on
your behalf by Advanced GeoEnviron mental, Inc. (AGE}and has the following comments.
The Report documents a site investigation that took place in February 2003. Three additional
shallow groundwater monitoring wells, MW-8, MW-9 and MW-10,were installed to investigate the
lateral extent of the contaminant plume at this site. Ori February 24, 2003 the new wells were
developed, and subsequently sampled during the quarterly groundwater monitoring event on
February 27, 2003. Methyl tertiary butyl ether(MtBE) is the contaminant of concern in the
groundwater at this site. Analytical results from the quarterly sampling indicate that the lateral
extent of the MtBE contamination has not been completely defined, but contaminant
concentrations in the most lateral wells are below the maximum contaminant level (mcl)of
14 micrograms per liter.
The report recommends preparation of a Corrective Action Plan (CAP)to determine and test
potential remedial options for this site. SJCIEHD agrees with this recommendation. Please
submit a CAP with feasibility study to SJCIEHD by August 22, 2003. Also, SJCIEHD
recommends reevaluating the monitoring well designs as some wells appear to be screened
across a Gay interval generally encountered between 25 and 30 feet below surface grade, which
may be acting as vertical conduits between sand intervals (e.g. MW-2, MW-3 MW-6, and MW-7).
If you have any questions or comments please cal!
