FROM Ground Zero Analysis PHONE NO. : 209 838 9883
.. Aug. 28 2000 11:26RM P2
MEMORANDUM
DATE: 08/28/00
TO: RON ROWE, PHS/EHD
FROM: GREGSTAHL
SUBJECT: KNOWLES/ROEK 102 S. WILSON WAY
We spoke on August 2 about approval of our workplan addendum for the site. You indicated
that you and Marty Hartzell had discussed the case, and according to my notes wanted to see
the following modifications:
• The fate and transport modeling, remedial effectiveness evaluation and health risk
evaluation portions of the Workplan to be postponed pending the results of
confirmation borings.
• Two additional exploratory borings, one to be located between wells MW5 and
MW13 and a second to be located west of MWI and MW6. This makes a total of
six soil borings.
• Boring CPT1/CBI (located within the former tankpit) to be advanced to a minimum
depth of 110 feet. The other borings to be advanced to minimum depths of 80 feet,
or deeper if indications of contamination persist.
• At each boring location, a cone penetrometer test (CPT) hole to be advanced as a
preliminary lithological identification tool. Each CPT boring to be twinned with
direct push equipment and soil and groundwater samples collected from intervals of
interest as identified from the CPT data and previous data. Soil and groundwater
sampling intervals to be agreed upon in consultation with PHS/EHD and RWQCB.
• Monitoring well MW13 to be properly destroyed under PHS/EHD permit.
In addition to the above, you and Mr. Hartzell indicated your approval of the installation of
proposed monitoring well MW 14.
Please let me know if the above correctly reflects our conversation.
