_ _ _ - 9.
A'
LEEOSHILL•HERKENHOFF,INC.
rods inserted down the center of the hollow-stem augers will be used to
collect the samples. The sample will be a modified (2.5-inch o.d.) split-
spoon sampler equipped with clean brass or stainless steel tubes. The
sampler will be driven 18 inches into the undisturbed ground beyond the
tip of the auger by a 140-pound hammer having a 30-inch drop. The sample
will then be withdrawn from the auger and tubes removed.
Once removed, all samp;es will be wrapped, carefully marked and identi-
fied. The sample will then be carefully preserved for analysis in
accordance with EPA and State of California protocol. Before transport
to the laboratory, samples will be cooled to 4 degrees C at the site and
maintained at that temperature until they are received at the laboratory.
Prior to transport, the sample will be logged onto a chain-of-custody form
identifying the project number, sample type, container type, sample
identification, sampler and date.
The samples will be delivered to the laboratory, where a laboratory
representative will accept them by. signing the chain-of-custody form.
The samples will then be placed in a refrigerator until they are extracted
and analyzed prior to their expiration date.
The split-spoon sampler will be brushed and washed with distilled water
between each sampling interval. All sample tube inserts and drilling
ghly cleaned with high-pressure, hot water prior
equipment will be thorou
to use. The boreholes will be backfilled with a sand-cement grout mixture
immediately after the samples are obtained.
A photoionization detector (PID), or equivalent, will be used to field
con
in the sail . Each sample will
monitor the volatile hydrocarbon co
be monitored to aid the field engineer in determining the appropriate
P1D is not intended to replace the
maximum depth of the boring. The location, depth, and time of
collection for each sample will also be carefully noted on the log. Also,
a field notebook will be maintained to document daily drilling progress,
sampling, site personnel , and sample shipment. Representative photographs
will be taken as the work progresses.
6
, j
