SOIL BORING INSTALLATION WORK PLAN
San Joaquin Marketing Association
1750 East Channel Street
Stockton, California
INTRODUCTION
In accordance with a request from Mr. Herman Campora of the San
Joaquin Marketing Association (SJMA) , Geological Audit Services,
Inc. (GeoAudit) has prepared this work plan to install a minimum of
one (1) soil boring at 1750 East Channel Street, Stockton,
California (the site) . The location of the site is illustrated on
Figure 1. A plan of the site is illustrated on Figure 2.
BACKGROUND
The site is located in a flat industrial/commercial area of central
Stockton (Figure 1) . The site is underlain by unconsolidated
Quaternary alluvial sediment. The upper twenty feet consists of
clayey sands to silty sands. Groundwater is estimated at 45-55 feet
below surface grade (San Joaquin County Department of Public Works,
Flood Control Section, 1990) .
In October of 1986, three underground storage tanks were removed
from the site: (1) 10, 000-gallon diesel tank; (1) 2, 000-gallon
regular leaded tank; and (1) 1, 500-gallon regular leaded tank. Soil
samples collected from beneath the tanks indicated that
contamination was present. Total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons
(TEPH) were detected at concentrations as high as 3 ,000 ppm. Total
lead was detected at concentrations as high as 65 ppm.
PROPOSED ASSESSMENT & SAMPLING
Geological Audit Services proposes to perform a soil drilling and
sampling program to determine the vertical extent of the
contamination associated with the former operation of the
underground storage tanks. Details of the proposed program are
given below:
1) Prepare a site health and safety plan in accordance with the
Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous
Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, October 1985.
2) Notify the EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
1
