Mr Mike Infurna
Page 2
Groundwater Sampling
On May 5, 2003 and May 6, 2003, site wells MWI through MW4 and U-Haul MW7 were
purged and sampled At least three well casing volumes were purged from each site well
During the purging process, temperature, pH and electrical conductivity parameters were
measured Groundwater samples were collected after physical parameter stabilization and
appropriate groundwater recovery Sample splits were collected from offsite U-Haul wells
MW3C, MW6B, MW6C, MW9B, MW10B and MW10C after U-Haul's consultants, Blaes
Environmental, had purged the wells All groundwater samples were stored in an ice chest
refrigerated to a temperature of approximately 4°C Purgewater was contained in
appropriately labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums Purge logs are included in Attachment
A
Groundwater samples were delivered under chain of custody protocol to Argon Laboratories
(FLAP #2359) Sample analysis consisted of gasoline oxygenate additives, 1,2-DCA and EDB
using EPA method 8260, BTEX using EPA method 8020, and TPHg using modified EPA
method 8015
GROUNDWATER ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Site Wells
TPHg and benzene were detected in each site well TPHg concentrations ranged from 210
parts per billion (ppb) in MW3 to 120,000 ppb in MWI Benzene levels ranged from 0 9 ppb
to 9,500 ppb in wells MW3 and MWI, respectively
Di-isopropyl ether (DIPE) was detected in well MW2 at 2 9 ppb No other gasoline oxygenate
additives were detected at the site
1,2-DCA was detected at a concentration of 1,100 ppb in well MWI, 340 ppb in well MW2
and 14 ppb in well U-Haul MW7 1,2-DCA was not detected in wells MW3 and MW4, and
EDB was not detected in any site wells Analytical results are summarized. in Table 2 and Table
3 Attachment B contains laboratory reports and chain of custody documentation
U-Haul Wells
TPHg and benzene were detected 1n U-Haul well MW6B at concentrations of 120 ppb and 1 4
ppb respectively and were detected in well MW9B at levels of 130 ppb, and 1 7 ppb TPHg
and BTEX compounds were not detected in U-Haul wells MW3C, MW6C, MW 10B and
MW 10C
i 1,2-DCA was detected in well MW6B at 17 ppb, in well MW6C at 78 ppb and in well MW9B.
%\GZA—FSIVOL—EIDATAIGROUNDZEIHARRYS\ReportslQMR1200312QM2003 doe
