f. 0
Mr Jeffrey Wong
In boring SBI, FID readings ranged from 5 parts per million (ppm) at a depth of approximately 5
feet bgs to >10,000 ppm from approximately 15 feet bgs to 55 feet bgs At 60 feet bgs the
concentration of volatile constituents decreased to 8,000 ppm and further decreased to 6,000
ppm at a depth of 65 feet bgs Strong odors were reported in samples from 15 feet to 65 feet No
samples were recovered from 69 to 76 feet bgs because of heaving sands Due to the
malfunctioning of the FID at 80 feet bgs in boring SB1, field screening of the soil was done by
using physical parameters for the remainder of the investigation Moderate to strong odors were
noted in boring SB2 from 25 to 30 feet bgs Slight to moderate product odors were recorded in
each of the other borings
Except for several occurrences of gray mottling in borings SBI and SB2, no abnormal
discolorations were noted in the soil samples collected from the site
4.2 Laboratory Analysis
Soil and groundwater samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
(BTEX) and gasoline oxygenate additives using EPA methods 8020 and 8260, respectively TPHg
was analyzed using EPA method 8015 modified
4.3 Soil Analytical Results
wSamples collected from SBI at 20, 30, and 45 feet bgs contained significantly elevated levels of
TPHg and BTEX In the sample collected at 80 feet bgs, TPHg was not detected and benzene was
measured at a concentration of 0 005 parts per million (ppm)
The sample collected at 30 feet bgs from SB2 had TPHg and benzene at concentrations of 810 ppm
and 0 86 ppm, respectively
No TPHg or BTEX was detected in borings S133 through SB5 Gasoline oxygenate additives were
not detected in the soil samples from any boring Soil analytical results are summarized in Table 2
Laboratory reports and chain of custody documentation are included in Attachment C
4.4 Groundwater Analytical Results
Groundwater analytical results from NMI indicated high concentrations of TPHg and BTEX
Oxygenates were not detected Analytical results of groundwater samples are summarized in Table
3 Laboratory reports and chain of custody documentation are included in Attachment C
4.5 Data from 2701 N. Wilson Way (U-Haul)
Groundwater monitoring wells were installed in 1991-1995 to investigate an underground storage
tank release at 2701 N Wilson Way, located approximately 150 feet northwest of the subject
property One well, MW7, is located on the southeast side of Wilson Way near the driveway of the
former Harry's Auto Mart Hydrocarbon odors and elevated photoionization detector (PID)
datalgrounzelharryslsumrpt doe
