KLEINFELDER
Constituent concentrations in ground water, prior to VES operation (March 1987) and
after VES operation(May 1988), are contoured on PIates 11 through 15.
4.3 VADOSI ZONE SOIL ANALYSIS
No volatile aromatic compounds(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene,or xylene)were detected
in the soil sample collected from confirmation boring B-17 at a depth of 15 feet below
ground surface. TPH, quantified as diesel, was detected at a concentration of 43 mg/kg.
The chain-of-custody and laboratory report are included in Appendix C. Field screening
did not indicate the presence of ion;zable organic compounds in the six samples collected
at approximately 5-foot intervals in this boring.
For comparison, field screening and analytical results for samples collected from B-1
thrcugh B-16 and EX-1 prior to the installation of the VES are presented in Table 4. The
highest T`PH concentrations (1,100 to 4,400 mg/kg) detected in the inttial investigations
were in samples from B-1,B-8, and EX-1 at approximate depths of 15 to 16 feet and 26 feet
be'ow ground surface. These samples also contained detectable concentrations of volatile
aromatic compounds. B-17 is located between 13-8 and EX-1 (Plate 4).
113-88-908 ,. 11
