i <br /> 4 ) Conduct a constant rate pumping test <br /> I5 ) Conduct dual-phase vapor extraction test at the site <br /> I6 ) Conduct an air sparging test for the site <br /> 7 ) Prepare a corrective action plan for the site <br />' <br /> 4 . 0 INSTALLATION OF NECESSARY EXTRACTION AND AIR SPARGE <br /> WELLS <br /> 4- 1 Install an Extraction Well to he Used for the Pumping and Dual- <br /> Phase Test <br /> On August 15, 2000, Gregg Drilling of Martinez, California constructed <br /> I extraction well EW-1 a few feet south of monitoring well MW-5 (Figure 4) <br /> The purpose of this well was to provide a large diameter well in the <br /> proper location to conduct pumping and dual-phase tests <br /> 4 1 1 Extraction Well Drillingd Sampling <br /> an <br /> The boring that the extraction well was constructed in was drilled using a <br /> Mobile B-61 drill rig equipped with 14-inch diameter hollow-stem augers <br /> The drilling was directed by ASE senior geologist Robert Kitay, RG <br /> Undisturbed soil samples were collected continuously as drilling <br /> progressed for lithologic and hydrogeologic description and for possible <br /> chemical analysis The samples were collected by driving a split-barrel <br /> sampler lined with 2-inch diameter brass tubes using repeated blows from <br /> a 140-pound hammer dropped 30-inches Selective soil samples were <br /> immediately cut, trimmed, sealed with Teflon tape, plastic end caps a n d <br />' duct tape, labeled, sealed in plastic bags and stored on ice for transport to <br /> Kiff Analytical, LLC of Davis, California (FLAP #2236) under chain o f <br /> custody Soil from the remaining tubes were described by the site <br /> geologist using the Unified Soil Classification System and were screened <br /> for volatile compounds using an Organic Vapor Meter (OVM) The soil <br /> was screened by emptying soil from one of the sample tubes into a plastic <br /> bag The bag was then sealed and placed in the sun for approximately 10 <br /> minutes After the VOCs were allowed to volatilize, the OVM measured <br /> I the vapor in the bag through a small hole punched in the bag OVM <br /> readings are used as a screening tool only, since the procedures are not as <br /> rigorous as those used in the laboratory OVM readings can be found o n <br /> the boring logs presented in Appendix B <br /> Frank's One Stop Interim Remediation System Workplan — September 2000 <br /> -7- <br />
