imapacted vadose zone hydrocarbons Measurable vacuum influence was
identified up to 45-feet from the extraction well
6 . 0 INTERIM REMEDIATION SYSTEM
' In order torovide a total cleanup of the
P p hydrocarbon plume at the site,
several different remediation strategies will be required Affected areas
' requiring remediation, as we know of them at this time, include (1) the
source area in both groundwater and the vadose zone adjacent to the
USTs and dispensers on--site, (2) the groundwater currently leaving the
property to the north, and (3) the groundwater that has already left the
site and is affecting off-site wells
As an interim measure, ASE proposes a series ofroundwater extraction
xtraction
wells along the downgradient edge of the subject site to capture
contaminated groundwater prior to its movement off-site The following
section describes ASE's proposed interim remediation system A more
' permanent remediation system(s) which will address remediation in both
groundwater and the vadose zone in the source area on-site, and the
remediation of groundwater which has already Ieft the site, will be
discussed in a corrective action plan which will be completed in the very
near future
6- 1 Groundw le Extrnytion System Components
The interim remediation system will use the technology commonly
' referred to as "pump and treat" to create a depression of the water table
in the area north of the USTs and dispensers which will, in effect, disallow
further migration of the plume off-site The captured groundwater will
then be treated with liquid-phase activated carbon prior to discharge to
the local sanitary sewer The system has been designed to operate
' automatically on a constant basis, 24-hours per day, 7-days per week
The basic components of the system are depicted on Figure 5, and are as
follows
' 61 1 Groundwater Extraction Wells
Groundwater will be extracted from (5) 2-inch diameter extraction wells
spaced between 25-feet and 30-feet from each other Three of the
extraction points currently exist at the site (piezometers P-2, P-3 and P-5)
Two additional extraction wells are scheduled for installation the week of
September 11, 2000
Frank's One Stop Interim Remediation System Workplan — September 2000
-14-
