' Monitor Well Destruction and Installation Report
City of Manteca Wastewater Quality Control Facility
' Page 2
' 4.0 DESTRUCTION MW-9E
This section includes a description of the site preparation, casing removal, and borehole sealing
procedures.
' 4.1 SITE PREPARATION
Prior to the destruction of the monitor well, a well permit application was submitted and approved by the
' San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The Underground Service Alert service was
notified of the drilling site and no public utilities were found in the vicinity of the well.
' 4.2 LOCATION OF THE WELL
The well location is shown on Figure 2. MW-9E was located in an active agricultural field.
' 4.3 DRILLING PROCEDURES
MW-9E had a 6 inch schedule 80 PVC casing to about 22 feet bgs, open at the bottom; with a 4 foot by 4
' foot concrete surface monument that was 6 inches thick at its outer edges and 2 feet thick at the well in
its center. The reinforced concrete monument resisted reduction by hammer, so it was lifted clear of the
casing and set aside. This process pulled the casing with the monument, so grout was pumped into the
' casing as the structure was pulled. After about 8 feet of the casing pulled, the concrete monument slipped
free of the casing. No over drilling was required. The hole was slightly over filled with grout, so a bailer
was used to bring the level down to 5 feet bgs. Native soil was brought to grade over the well site.
' Drilling services were provided by V&W Drilling, Inc. of Isleton, California (California License No.
C57-720904). Destruction of the well was completed January 22, 2007. Photographs of the procedures
are included in Attachment D.
' 5.0 INSTALLATION OF MONITOR WELL MW-11
This section includes a description of the site preparation, drilling procedures, monitor well installation,
tsurveying, well development, and measurement of groundwater field parameters.
5.1 SITE PREPARATION
' Prior to the installation of the monitor wells, a well permit application was submitted to, and approved
by, the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The Underground Service Alert service
was notified of the drilling site and no public utilities were found in the vicinity of the well.
' 5.2 LOCATION OF THE MONITOR WELL
The well location was selected by Facility personnel for accessibility and proximity to MW-9E, the
destroyed well it replaces.
' 5.3 DRILLING PROCEDURES
The borehole was advanced to a depth of 2-feet below grade using a clamshell type porthole digger. An 8
inch hollow stem auger was used for the remainder of the 25 foot boring. The drilling services were
' provided by V&W Drilling, Inc. of Isleton, California (California License No. C57-720904).
Construction of the well was completed January 22, 2007.
' CONDOR
