IMEW
Items such as expired or contaminated OTC, aerosol cans that are inoperable whether empty or full, and leaking chemicals all need to be treated as
Hazardous Waste.
Each of these items indicate where it would be sorted or classified among the six waste categories. For example:
• Aerosol can labels that state "flammable" or"contents under pressure" must go in the Flammable tote
• Expired Over the Counter drugs must be placed in the Toxic tote. You can typically find the expiration date by the Drug Facts or Drug Label panel label
• Liquid laundry detergent labels may warn "eye irritant" or"ingesting is hazardous"—these are hazardous materials. Refer to the QRG or UL ItemScan
app to place leaking detergent in the correct bin.
Remember that most items will give an indication of appropriate disposal based on warnings.
Select the highlighted arrow to continue.
Chapter 2: Identifying& Handling Hazardous Audio beings immediately 1.
