19 May 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0266
will be described using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS and ATSM D-2489). Soil
sample descriptions and PID screening results will be summarized on boring logs prepared for the
final report.
5.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after washing with a solution of Alconox. All hollow stem augers will be steam-cleaned prior
to advancement in each borehole.
5.3. MONITORING WELL COMPLETION
The soil boring will be completed as 2-inch diameter ground water monitoring well. A proposed
ground water monitoring well construction diagram is included as Figures 4 - Monitoring Welt'
Design.
The monitoring well will be developed utilizing a submersible pump or bailer. Water will be purged
from each well so that the well is essentially sediment free. Purged ground water will be stored on-
site in DOT drums. A reference point will be marked on the top of the well head, and surveyed the
to the nearest 0.01-inches to determine the elevation relative to existing monitoring wells.
5.4. LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Selected soil and ground water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified
as gasoline(TPH-g), total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d), volatile aromatics
(benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes: BTE&X)and methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)
in accordance with the appropriate EPA methods, 8015m and 8020.
Selected soil and ground water samples collected from the vicinity of Building I, the metal plating
shop, will be analyzed for the following metals; cadmium, chromium,. nickel, lead and zinc in
accordance with EPA method 6010. If soil samples are in excess 150 ppm of lead or five time the
total threshold detection limit of any of the metals, the sample will also be analyzed by a STLC
(soluble threshold limit concentration) extraction in accordance with California Title 22 and EPA
methods 6010.
Laboratory reports of soil and ground water analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain-of-custody documentation will be
included with a report of findings.
