ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Measuring Stick
IMPORTANT: Each of the numbered steps in the
installation instructions are designed as a CHECK
LIST to ensure proper installation and trouble free
operation of the OPW 71 SO Overfill Prevention
Valve.
Read and follow these steps carefully, checking Riser Pipe
them off as you proceed. with Face (A)
Seal Adaptor To Tank
Figure numbers correspond to step numbers for Top(I.D.) To Tank
(B)
easy reference. Bottom
STEP 1: MEASURE L I
Install the OPW Face Seal Adaptor and the OPW 6-1/2"
Thread-on Spill Container on the Fill Riser(Refer to
the Installation Instructions Supplied with the Spill
Container). Insert the 71 SO measuring stick Figure 1
through the riser pipe and hook it under the inside of
the tank in the lengthwise direction. Mark the
measuring stick at the top of the Face Seal Adaptor
threads inside the base of the spill container bucket
just below the drain valve outlet window(See Figure
1 &1A). The top flange on the 71 SO will rest on the
Face Seal Adaptor just below the drain valve outlet, 4" NPT
and be locked in place between the Face Seal Nipple
Adaptor and the 4" nipple that is installed in the spill
container with the Jack Screw Kit (See Figure 1A).
(For riser pipe configurations other than that shown,
consult installation drawings or use other necessary o
means to measure Dimension "A"). OPW Spill
Container
Using a tape measure, measure the distance from Jack Screw
the top of the Face Seal Adaptor in the spill Mark measuring Kit
container to the bottom of the tank(Dim. "B"). stick here for
Jack Screw O-Ring Seal
IMPORTANT: Inspect the riser pipe for any foreign installation
material. Over spray from tank relining or any (Top of Face Face Seal
internal burrs inside of pipe must be removed prior Seal Adaptor) 71SO Adaptor
to installation. Failure to have an unobstructed riser
pipe may prevent proper installation and operation of Figure 1A
the valve. The 71 SO is designed for installation into
schedule 40 riser pipes. The 71 SO cannot be
installed into schedule 80 riser pipes.
STEP 2: MARK THE TUBE Measuring Stick
Use the result from STEP 1 and HOW TO LOCATE
THE POSITION OF THE 71 SO AT 95% TANK r
CAPACITY to mark the upper tube. Measure the j
distance from the seam where the upper tube and
valve body meet. For"C" measurements less than Transfer Mark
or equal to 6-1/2" see Figure 2. For"C" From Stick to
measurements greater than 6-1/2" use a tape Upper Tube
measure to mark the calculated upper tube length (Cut Line)
onto the upper tube.
