(AA&AI). In the Workplan,
AAAI proposed the destruction of the seven (7) Continuous Multi-chamber Tubing (CMT) wells MW-7
A-F through MW-13 A-F (Figure 1) due to groundwater communication between six (6) A through F (A-F)
aquifer zones monitored from 30' to 170' below ground surface (bgs). In the Workplan Addendum
AA&AI proposed to increase from six (6) to twelve (12) the individual monitoring wells to investigate the
vertical and lateral extent of the groundwater impacts from the petroleum release from your property. I
concur the work proposed in both of these documents is necessary and appropriate for the on-going
investigation at this Site, with minor modifications as detailed in the comments below.
In the Workplan, AA&AI proposed the destruction of MW-7 A-F through MW-13 A-F by first removing the
well box (surface completion), and then over-drilling by hollow stem auger (HSA) to the total depth (165'
to 170' bgs) of each well. A bentonite clay grout will be pumped by tremie pipe through the augers and
topped off after well destruction, as needed. Surface repairs after grouting will match existing pavement
(concrete or asphalt). Investigative derived waste (soil cuttings, captured water, disposable equipment,
etc.) will be properly disposed. Encroachment permits will be required for destroying three (3) of the
CMT wells (MW-11 A-F through MW-13 A-F) in the sidewalk along the northern right of way on Yosemite
Street and for one (1) CMT well (MW-10 A-F) in the western right of way of Jesse Avenue. AAAI stated
destruction of the CMT wells will be completed and a report submitted by mid-December 2013, with the
schedule contingent upon no major changes required by the permitting agency, the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD).
In the Workplan Addendum AA&AI proposed installation of MW-14A through MW-17A and MW-14B
through MW-17B by a hollow stem auger (HSA) drill rig, while MW-14C through MW-17C would be
installed using a mud rotary (MR) drill rig to reach the desired well depth without refusal.
