Alaniz, John
From: Mike Wesson <mwesson@strongtie.com>
Sent: Thursday, October 3, 2019 4:11 PM
To: Alaniz, John
Cc: Scott Shackelford
Subject: RE: Inspection Report 9-3-2019 PR0539037 FA0015493
Hi John,
Sorry for the delayed response.
I spoke with our waste vendor(Safety-Kleen) and what we will do is work with the maintenance/contractor vendors (e.g.
Central Valley Lift Truck)to store battery acid in a separate container as a hazardous waste along with any rags used to
clean the acid with a solution. Safety-Kleen will generate a separate profile for this waste.
Additionally, when speaking with our Safety-Kleen rep I relayed the idea of using the SJC form for vendor generated
used oil and filter disposal/documentation that you provided. He recommended that we store all of that waste at our
facility and then have Safety-Kleen pick it up. This will be our plan and we can use the SJC form that you provided as
another option if needed (when we haven't already started to fill a container with our own generated waste for
example).
Please let me know if these are acceptable approaches and/or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Michael Wesson, Ph.D., P.E., S.E.
Simpson Strong-Tie
Tyrell Gilb Research Laboratory Manager
1255 Performance Dr, Stockton, CA 95206
Phone: 209-941-1182 1 Fax: 209-983-8549
www.strongtie.com
From:Alaniz,John [mailto:jalanizl@sjgov.org]
Sent: Friday, September 27, 2019 2:49 PM
To: Mike Wesson <mwesson@strongtie.com>
Cc: Scott Shackelford <sshackelford@strongtie.com>
Subject: RE: Inspection Report 9-3-2019 PR0539037 FA0015493
Hi Mike,
I have reviewed the return to compliance. All of the violations have been closed except for the first one (failure to
determine). I just need a little more information regarding the battery acid waste. How will it start to be handled
(hazardous vs non-hazardous)? The main concern with this waste stream is that heavy metals can be left in the
neutralized solution. You can just respond back to this email for a response.
Thank You,
John Alaniz
From: Mike Wesson [mailto:mwesson@strongtie.com]
Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2019 4:54 PM
