Analytical results of the
groundwater samples obtained in January 2002 from the three monitoring wells were non-detect for all
chemicals tested. This monitoring event was the second of the three consecutive quarters of sampling EHD
required by letter dated June 25,2001.
In a meeting on-May 1,2002,Central Valley Regional NVater Quality Control Board(RWQCB)agreed that the
contamination at the site appears to be defined at this time. RWQCB also agreed that another quarter of
sampling may not be necessary and the site should be considered for closure.
Under the direction of RWQCB,5 monitoring wells(MW-4 thru MW-8)have been installed at the north side
of the property to investigate the extent of the aboveground storage tank-related diesel contamination.
Analytical results of the groundwater sample from MW-7,which is located about 300 feet from the
underground storage tanks, were 2,900 micrograms per liter(g/1)in Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
gasoline, and 65 pg/l of benzene according to the Quarter Mfing or
yrepfo ' 2002f
Aboveground Storage Tank Site dated April 24,2002. In a telephone conversation on Olay 1,2002,GTI expressed
that the presence of aromatic hydrocarbon compounds in groundwater at the north end of the property may
be related to the underground tank release. GTI requested EHD not to submit the site for closure until that
could be verified.
It is incumbent upon you to provide evidence that the groundwater contamination observed at the northern
part of the property is related to the underground tank sourceII. A site conceptual model that can account for all
the available data and demonstrates a UST origin for the contaminants encountered in',MW-7 should be
prepared. EHD agreed that additional investigation to detern ne the hydrogel4cal condition and potentially
deeper presence of contamination in groundwater may be re4uired. However, any proposal for additional
investigative work not requested by RHD must be justified. Ali unjustified proposal may be rejected by the
Clean Up Fund for reimbursement. A site conceptual model may provide the required justification.
EHD also agreed with GTI to conduct the last quarterly sampling in May 2002. if EHD does not receive an
investigative work proposal by August 20,2002,the site may be submitted for closure.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Won RENS V Nuel C.Henderson,Jr.,RG
Jeffrey g,
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
Cc: CRWQCB,Central Valley Region—Marty Hartzell
Cc: Geological'Technics,Inc.--Ray Kablanow
