This berm was
installed around February 2000. A local agency wants engineering calculations and confirmation that
the berm is structurally sound(if filled). The following is some design information:
• The actual liquid volume that would need to be contained is 1,200 gallons.
• The design liquid volume that can be contained is 1,750 gallons.
• The estimated liquid level contained with a 1,200-gallon leak is 16 inches.
Do not worry about leaking or chemical attack on the concrete. The exposed concrete surface has
been finished with an industrial chemical proof coating.
If your findings determine that the berm is inadequate to perform as required, please provide corrective
measures that can be implemented.
have attached printed photos showing the concrete forms, rebar placement, and floor gasket seal that
were in place prior to the concrete pour. Also included is the berm's design sketch.
We would like to have your engineering data(confirmation or repairs)returned to us by May 2, 2003.
Thank you for your service.
Sincerely,
Christopher Hansen, P.E.
Plant Engineering and Operations Manager
