Pursuant to this
law, as of January 1, 1996, the neutralization of acidic or alkaline (base) wastes from the
food processing industry no longer requires authorization from the Department. This
treatment is currently shown as Conditional Exemption Specified Wastestreams (CESW)
Wastestream # 6 (per DTSC Form 1772B).
If you meet the requirements of the statute and operate no other onsite treatment
units, your current grant of authorization will be terminated and you will no longer be
considered an onsite treatment facility. You will not be subject to the formal closure
requirements that apply to treatment facilities.
If this exemption applies to your company, please complete the attached Notification
of Exemption of Treatment Unit Form and return within 30 days. If you are eligible for this
exemption, returning the completed attached form will terminate authorization and close our
records for your food processing neutralization treatment unit(s). This will not close anv
other units that may be authorized by DTSC at your facility. If you have any questions,
please contact your DTSC Regional Office (see attached map).
Sincerely,
Paula Rasmussen, Chief
State Regulatory Programs Division
Hazardous Waste Management Program
Enclosure
Rin1O on Fx)r:leG Viper
