7
INFORMATION SHEET
PACIFIC ENERGY, INC.
AND THE CITY OF STOCKTON
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
Pacific Energy, formerly Pacific Lighting Energy Systems, under contract with the
City of Stockton, operates a methane gas recovery facility at the Austin Road
Landfill . Methane gas is collected from the landfill and burned to generate
electricity (800 KW) . During the collection process, moisture condenses in the
pipes and at the plant. Line condensate is distributed back into the landfill via
condensation traps, where the condensate can infiltrate the refuse. Plant
condensate is pumped back to the landfill and discharged to condensation traps.
The Austin Road Landfill is a Class II-2 waste site in Section 3, T1S, R7E,
MDB&M. This site is approximately six miles southeast of Stockton, on Austin
Road. The site consists of 180 acres, of which 114 are filled. Operations began
around 1955.
Amended:12/8/88:JKT:gs
