The
next monitoring;which will occur near the end of August 2007 will be the final monitoring for the
calendar year. Nancy Kramer, of our office, met with Ted Tasiopoulos, EHD Inspector-on July 30; -
2007 for the annual review of the system.
We understand that a phone line has recently been connected to the system and is now accessible to
Orenco operators for their monitoring and maintenance (1-209-825-8603).After reviewing the
'r monitoring data from our office and trouble shooting the system on August 6, 2007,Tristian
Bounds, the Orenco system operator and engineer determined that the treatment system was
performing nitrification well, but not denitrifying,an essential function of the treatment system.
is
It was his opinion that due to what may have been low attendance at the Anka Health Center, the
recirculation settings were too high for for such minimal flows, and that by decreasing the
Y' recirciilatioinrate,rhe system rriaypexfoiri -inane adequately'Tlie'recirculation to retention ratio'was
set for 30 seconds on and 8.5 minutes off to accommodate approximately 1,000 gallons per day..
The system has been adjusted to 30 seconds on and 14.4 minutes off to accommodate what is a
more likely flowof 600 gallons per day. The reduction of the recirculation will lower the dissolved
oxygen,improving anoxic conditions (impairing'denitrification).
,I
l
EI
LODI ■'SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Industrial Way;Lodi,California 95240 11111111209.3673701 ■ 209.369.4228 fax ■www.noanderson.coin
