Bernie Dietz, MicroSepTec Installer and Operator, is the
Certified Distribution Operator (CDO) for the plant. The following finding$-were observed and
noted upon inspection- i
1. Upon a routine inspection at twelve o'clock noon, it was observed by the Environmental _
k Health Department (EHD) that Filter Bed #3 appeared to be in failure.'The alarm light for
Filter Bed #3 was activated. Effluent was observed surfacing at the north-end locations of
the filter bed and when the pumps were turned on, treated effluent was observed percolating {
at the north-east portion of Filter Bed #3. No odors were detected upon inspection. The
manager Mr. Hasim Tarin, and operations manager Mr. Sadar Amin was on site to observe
the EHD findings. Mr. Bernie Dietz, the CDO for the facility was immediately contacted.
Mr. Dietz was instructed to come to the site to mitigate the surfacing treated effluent and to
shut down Filter Bed #3, and redirect the effluent to Filter Bed #1 and Filter Bed #2. In ;.
addition to shutting down Filter Bed #3, the surfacing effluent would be pumped off and all
areas treated with the application of lime to mitigate the potential exposure to pathogenic
J.
organisms that may be present.
A site visit was conducted later the same day to ensure that the surfacing effluent had been
pumped off and that lime was to be applied to all affected areas. All necessary steps were
taken to mitigate any potential exposure of pathogenic organism to animals and people by I
the EHD, Mr. Bernie Dietz, and the management of the facility. }
A chain-link fence has been installed around the perimeter of the system to enclose
the MicroSepTec three (SM9500) gallon per day (gpd) units. Carbon filters have been
installed to mitigate any odors that potentially could escape the system. No odors were
i
detected at the perimeter locations of the MicroSepTec pTec units. The only period of time
in which odors may be present is upon routine scheduled maintenance which includes
the pumping of the solids from the lift stations of the three systems.
1 1.
' 11
