Unocal/Subway
Facility Location: 9015 W Walnut Grove, Thornton, CA
Inspection Date: December 4, 2008
Facility I.D.: PRO522382
Permit I.D.: PT0015123
On December 4, 2008 a routine bi-annual inspection was conducted at the above referenced
wastewater treatment plant facility. Bernie Dietz, MicroSepTec Installer and Operator, is the
Certified Distribution Operator(CDO) for the plant. The following findings were observed and
noted upon inspection:
1. As of this date there have been several changes and upgrades to the existing facility.
A chain-link fence has been installed around the perimeter of the system to enclose
the MicroSepTec three (SM9500) gallon per day (gpd) units. Carbon filters have been
installed to mitigate any odors that potentially could escape the system. No odors were
detected at the perimeter locations of the MicroSepTec units. The only period of time
in which odors may be present is upon routine scheduled maintenance which includes
the pumping of the solids from the lift stations of the three systems.
The last complete servicing of the plant was conducted on November 22, 2008. All three
systems were activated, checked for function, and found to be working properly. Pumps,
floats, and wiring were inspected to verify proper operation. The system is serviced
approximately every three months, which includes pumping of the lift station and the first
chamber of each of the three MicroSepTec systems to remove sludge. The routine service
involves inspection of each of the chambers to verify aeration and testing of the floats and
pumps to verify all functions are operating properly per Bernie Dietz's letter dated January
10, 2008. On the date of inspection two of the three MicroSepTec systems were in use.
System number one has been shut down per Bernie Dietz (CDO), to conserve power. The
system is available for operation but is not currently needed, nor is required to be in
operation.
2. A cement wall with an addition of a three foot fence with privacy slats has been installed
at the east and southeast sides of the plant to enclose the system and to protect the plant
from unauthorized persons gaining entry. Pictures were taken on December 4, 2008 and
are on record with the permanent file. Copies forwarded along with the inspection report.
1
