Small quantity generators whose businesses are long distances (200 miles or <br />farther) away from their waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities may <br />accumulate their waste onsite for up to 270 days if all of the following apply: <br />The quantity of hazardous waste accumulated onsite never exceeds 6,000 <br />kg. <br />The generator does not hold acutely hazardous waste or extremely <br />hazardous waste in an amount greater than one kg for more than 90 days. <br />The generator complies with the requirements of subdivisions (d), (e) and <br />(f) of Section 262.34 of Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. <br /> <br />3. Satellite accumulation: A generator may also hold, at an accumulation area, up <br />to 55 gallons of hazardous waste for more than 180 days if all of the following <br />requirements are met with respect to the 55 gallons or one quart of acutely or <br />extremely hazardous waste: <br />The generator must not hold the accumulated waste onsite for more <br />than one year from the initial date of accumulation; <br />The generator may only accumulate the waste in containers, not tanks. <br />The waste must be at or near the area where the waste is generated <br />and which is under the control of the operator of the process <br />generating the waste; <br />The generator must label the containers used for accumulating the <br />hazardous waste with the words "Hazardous Waste". Labels must <br />also include information on the composition and physical state of the <br />waste, the hazardous properties of the waste, the name and address <br />of person producing the waste and the generator's ID number, plus the <br />initial date; <br />The generator must comply with the requirements of Sections <br />66265.171, 66265.172, 66265.173(a), Title 22, CCR; <br />Within 3 days of reaching the 55 gallon/one quart quantity limitation, <br />the generator must: <br />Date the holding container with the date on which the limit was <br />reached. <br />Move the waste to the "90/180 -day" accumulation area or offsite, <br />and; <br />Comply with the requirements of Chapter 12, Article 3, Section <br />66262.34(a), Title 22, CCR and other applicable provisions. For those <br />facilities that remove their hazardous waste directly from the <br />accumulation area within the three days allowed, this provision does <br />not apply. <br />RULES FOR SHIPPING HAZARDOUS WASTE <br />In some cases your waste could be exempt from manifest requirements.
