CLEARWATERFILE DOPY
C R O U P, I N C
Enarrannitntei Strvicrs
Mr Harlan Knoll June 1, 1998
Sari Joaquin County PHSIEHD
P O Box 388
Stockton,CA 95201-0388
Re. Fortner E-Z Serve Site No 100878, 1012 West Yosemite,Manteca
Tear Mr Knoll,
I am glad we had a chance to catch up last week This letter documents our conversation, and will
serve as a brief workplan for the desenptlon of the next project step at the referenced location
Background
An environmental investigation was initiated at this site following the detection of a suspected fuel
hydrocarbon release in 1959. A total of eight monitoring wells were installed over the course of
the site assessment, and the dissolved contaminant plume was defined to the satisfaction of the San
Ioaquin County PHSIEHD staff Numerous groundwater sampling events occurred in the
succeeding years Results of analysis of samples collected during these events demonstrated a
steady decline in concenirdtton of contaminants
Scope of Work
As we discussed, the low Ievels of dissolved hydrocarbons present in groundwater do not warrant
engineered remedial action, and the case may qualify for closure Prior to a petition for closure,
the PHSIEHD has requested a final round of groundwater monitoring, with samples from each
well tested for concentrations of fuel additives by EPA-Mt 8260
Clearwater shall complete the required scope of activities, and prepare a report documenting
sampling and testing results. If concentrauons of contaminants remain low, and additive levels are
within an acceptable range, Clearwater shall complete a request for project closure. The
monitoring wells shall be properly abandoned following County and RWQCB concurreace with
the closure request. i
i ,
E k
5-'0 Third Street 5wte 104' Qak6and ;Califofma 44607 + Te1ep11bre 5i0-S93-5160 + Fax 510-593-5a1
dno0j!) 831UM803-0 ,W020 It e6,!,6Z t4rif '
