s 4 <br /> I ` <br /> SFA COR .' <br /> STANDARD SAFETY DRILLING SAFETY SSP 30 <br /> PROCEDURES <br /> • The safety supervisor should observe the mental, emotional and physical capability <br /> of each worker to perform the assigned work in a proper and safe manner. The <br /> safety supervisor should dismiss any worker from the drill site whose mental and <br /> physical capabilities might cause injury to the worker or coworkers.- - <br /> • The safety supervisor should ensure that there is a first-aid kit and a fire <br /> extinguisher on each drill rig and on each additional vehicle, and ensure that they <br /> are properly maintained. <br /> • The safety supervisor (and as many crew members as possible)should be well trained <br /> and capable of using first-aid kits, fire extinguisher and all other safety devices and ° <br /> equipment <br /> • The safety supervisor should maintain a list of addresses and telephone numbers of <br /> emergency assistance units (ambulance services, police, hospitals, etc.) and inform <br /> other members of the drill crew of the ekistence-and iodation of the list. <br /> 1.4.30.4 Individual Protective Equipment <br /> � k <br /> Discussion <br /> For most geotechnical, mineral and/or g_r_ound-w_a_ter drilling projects, individual protective- <br /> equipment should-include a safety hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and close fitting, but <br /> comfortable, gloves and clothing, -without--loose=ends, straps,drawstrings or WEs,-or -- <br /> otherwise unfastened parts that might catch on some rotating or translating component of <br /> the drill rig. Rings and jewelry should not be worn during a work shift. <br /> • <br /> Safety Head Gear. Safety hats (hard hats) should be worn by everyone working or <br /> visiting at or near a drilling site. All safety hats should-meet the requirements of <br /> ANSI 289.1. All safety hats should be kept clean and in good repair with the <br /> headband and crown straps properly adjusted for the individuaf drill rig worker or <br /> visitor. <br /> • SafeShoes or Boots. Safety shoes or boots should be worn by all drilling personnel <br /> and all visitors to the drill site observing drilling operations within close proximity <br /> of the drill rig. All safety shoes or boots should meet the requirements of ANSI <br /> Z41.1. <br /> • Gloves All drilling personnel should wear gloves for protection against cuts and i? <br /> abrasion which could occur while handling wire rope or cable and from contact with <br /> sharp edges and burrs on drill rods and other drilling or sampling tools.
