SFACOR <br /> STANDARD SAFETY DRILLING SAFETY SSP 30 <br /> PROCEDURES <br /> • Know and do not exceed the rated capacity of hooks, rings, links, swivels, shackles <br /> and other lifting aids. <br /> • Always wear gloves when handling wire ropes. <br /> Do not guide wire rope on hoist drums with your hands. <br /> • Following the installation of a new wire rope, first lift a Iight load to allow the wire <br /> rope to adjust. <br /> • Never carry out any hoisting operations when the weather conditions are such that <br /> hazards to personnel, the public or property are created. <br /> • Never leave a load suspended in the air when the hoist is unattended. <br /> • Keep your hands away from hoists, wire rope, hoisting hooks, sheaves and pinch <br /> points as slack is being taken up and when the load Is being hoisted. <br /> I <br /> • Never hoist the load over the head, body or feet of any personnel. <br /> • Never use a hoist line to "ride" up the mast/derrick of a drill rig. <br /> • Replace wire ropes with ones that conform to the drill rig manufacturer's <br /> specif ications. <br /> 1.4.30.15 Safe Use of Cathead and Rope Hoists <br /> Discussion <br /> I <br /> The following safety procedures should be employed when using a cathead hoist. <br /> Keep the cathead clean and free of rust and oil and/or grease. The cathead should <br /> be cleaned with a wire brush if it becomes rusty. <br /> • Check the cathead periodically, when the engine is not running, for rope wear <br /> grooves. If a rope groove forms to a depth greater than 1/8-inch (3 mm), the <br /> cathead should be replaced. <br /> • Always use a clean, dry, sound rope.
