SEA.COR <br /> STANDARD SAFETY DRILLING SAFETY SSP 30 <br /> PROCEDURES <br /> • When rotating augers, stay clear of the rotating auger and other rotating <br /> components of the drill rig. Never reach behind or around a rotating auger for any <br /> reason <br /> • Use a long-handled shovel to move auger cuttings away from the auger. Never use <br /> your hands or feet to move cuttings away from the auger. <br /> • Do not remove earth from rotating augers Augers should be cleaned only when the <br /> drill rig is in neutral and the augers are stopped from rotating. <br /> 1.4.30.17 Safety During Rotary and Core Drilling <br /> Disucssion <br /> Rotary drilling tools should be safety checked periodically and replaced when necessary. <br /> • Water swivels and hoisting plugs should be lubricated and checked for "frozen" <br /> bearings before use. <br /> • = Drill rod-chuck~jaws should be-checkdd-per iodic ally and replaced when necessary. <br /> • The capabilities of hoist and sheaves should be checked against the anticipated <br /> weight to the drill rod string plus other expected hoisting levels. <br /> Special precautions that should be taken for safe rotary or core drilling involve chucking, <br /> joint break, hoisting and lowering of drill rods: <br /> • Only the operator of the drill rig should brake or set a manual chuck so that rotation <br /> of the chuck will not occur prior to removing the wrench from the chuck. <br /> • Drill rods should not be braked during lowering into the hole with drill rod chuck <br /> ,laws. <br /> • Drill rods should not be held or lowered into the hole with pipe wrenches. <br /> • If a string of drill rods are accidentally or inadvertently released into the hole, an <br /> attempt should not be made to grab the falling rods with your hands or a wrench. <br /> • In the event of a plugged bit or other circulation blockage, the high pressure in the <br /> piping and hose between the pump and the obstruction should be relieved or bled <br /> down before breaking the first tool joint <br /> corp-h&slssp-30 In_1 q R FVTCFn i i mg io,) <br />
