Site Characterization Report <br /> ABF Freight System,Inc. <br /> Manteca California Page 1 <br /> • 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> CAL INC has prepared this Site Characterization Report for the ABF Freight System, Inc site <br /> located at 2427 West Yosemite Avenue in Manteca California (Appendix 1, Figure 1) The site <br /> characterization work was completed in accordance with CAL INC's Site Characterization Work <br /> Plan, dated June 1998, which was approved by San Joaquin County Public Health Services, <br /> Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) (Appendix 2) <br /> 1.1 Purpose and Project Scope <br /> The purpose of CAL INC's investigation was to evaluate whether soil and groundwater beneath <br /> the subject site had been impacted by the operation of underground fuel storage at the subject <br /> site The scope of work for the investigation included the following <br /> • Preparing a Site Safety and Health Plan, <br /> • Conducting an underground utility clearance, <br /> • The drilling, installation, and development of three monitoring wells, <br /> • • The collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples form each well, <br /> • Surveying the top of casing elevation of each well and the collection of groundwater <br /> elevation measurements to determine the depth and direction of groundwater flow, and <br /> • Preparation of report summarizing the findings of the investigation and CAL INC's <br /> recommendations for the site <br /> 1.2 Site Description <br /> The ABF Freight System, Inc site is located off Highway 120 at 2427 West Yosemite Ave in <br /> Manteca, California The site consists of a main freight terminal and office, truck parking, a <br /> former diesel fuel dispenser island, and a former 10,000-gallon diesel UST site The site location <br /> and layout of the former tanks is shown on the drawings in Appendix 1, Figure 2 and 3 <br /> 1.3 Local Conditions <br /> 1 3 1 Geolpgy <br /> The subject site is located in the Great Valley Province in the northern San Joaquin Valley In <br /> general, the subsurface geology consists of continental deposits that are highly stratified, <br /> interbedded, coarse-grained sediments and fine-grained cohesive to lithifaed sediments <br /> • encountered to depths of approximately 2,000 feet below ground surface (bgs) Geologic <br /> formations and informal stratigraphic units underlying the subject site are, with respect to <br /> increasing depth the Younger Alluvium of Holocene age, the Older Alluvium of Pleistocene to <br /> 11SERVERIIC-DRIVE\PROJECTS132721P1ans and Reports\ABF Freight Site Charactenzation Closure Report doe 11/17/98 <br />
