Site Characterization Report <br /> ABF Freight System,Inc <br /> Manteca California Pae 4 <br /> . estimated direction of groundwater flow) The remaining two monitoring wells were moved <br /> several feet in toward the former tank pit <br /> 2.0 PRELIMINARY RESEARCH <br /> Preliminary activities conducted for development of this investigation include conducting a site <br /> inspection and reviewing agency files The results of the preliminary research are presented in <br /> the following sections <br /> 2.1 Site Reconnaissance <br /> Mr Steve Essert and Ms Stephanie Quick of CAL INC conducted a visual inspection and site on <br /> August 17, 1998 The purpose of the site inspection was to visually inspect the site and mark the <br /> site for Underground Service Alert (USA) clearance <br /> The property of the subject site consists of the main freight terminal and office, truck parking, a <br /> former diesel fuel dispenser island, and a former 10,000 gallon UST site, all enclosed in 6 foot <br /> cyclone fence with 3 string barbed wire The site is accessed by a sliding front gate located <br /> directly south of the former dispensing island and former UST (Appendix 1, Figure 3) <br /> The subject area is that of the former UST and dispensing island located on the west portion of <br /> • the ABF Freight System, Inc yard The dispensing island is approximately 45 feet north of the <br /> entrance gate and approximately 30 west of the eastern property fencing The former UST was <br /> located roughly 20 feet southwest of the dispensing island <br /> 2.2 Agency Review <br /> On August 28, 1998, Ms Quick of CAL INC conducted a file review at the San Joaquin PHS file <br /> clerks office to obtain file information on possible past contamination for the subject site as well <br /> as possible contamination from adjacent properties The FHS Clerks Office had one file for the <br /> vicinity of the subject site for review The file was of the UST removal activities conducted by <br /> CAL INC during the period of March 16 through 20, 1998 No history of past contamination or <br /> adjacent property contamination was found <br /> 3.0 FIELD INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES AND METHODS <br /> This section presents a summary of CAL INC's site investigation completed on August 20, 1998 <br /> Included in this section is a description of the field sampling activities, analysis performed, <br /> QA/QC procedures, site restoration, and waste containment and disposal <br /> 3.1 Soil and Groundwater Sampling Program <br /> 3 1 1 Existing Site Conditions <br /> The soil borings were drilled on August 20, 1998 The fieldwork was conducted during the <br /> daytime operations of the ABF Freight System, Inc MWI. was drilled through concrete slab, <br /> 11SERVERIIC-DRIVEIPROIECTS\32721P1ans and ReportslABF Freight site Characterization Closure Report doc 11/17/99 <br />
