Site Characterization Report
ABF Freight System,Inc
Manteca California Pae 6
surveyed relative to each other using a closed loop method and an arbitrary datum All three top
of casing elevations were within 0 02 inches of each other
3 15 Groundwater Sampling and Monitoring Methodology
A grab groundwater sample was collected from MW 1 at a depth of 25 feet during the monitoring
well construction The grab groundwater sample was collected through the center of the hollow-
stem auger using a stainless steel bailer
After the monitoring wells were constructed and developed, the wells were allowed to recover
for at least 72 hours before the wells were again purged and groundwater samples were collected
All three monitoring wells were purged and sampled using disposable polyethylene bailers
equipped with volatile organic compound (VOC) sample ports designed to minimize aeration of
the water samples during transfer from the bailers to the sample containers A new bailer was
used for each monitonng well A minimum of three casing volumes was removed from each
well prior to collection of the groundwater samples Each well was allowed to recover at least 80
percent before samples were collected
3 16 Field Screening
Soil cuttings and soil samples collected with the split spoon sampler were screened using a
photo-ionization detector (PID) The PID measures relative concentrations of organic
• (petroleum) vapors and was used to field screen the samples for laboratory analyses None of the
samples analyzed emitted detectable concentrations of organic vapors PID readings are
presented on the soil boring logs in Appendix 6
3.2 Analytical Program
All soil and water samples were analyzed by Mobile Chem Laboratories of Lafayette California
Mobile Chem is certified by the State of California Department of Health Services to conduct the
analyses included in the analytical program The soil samples collected during the investigation
were analyzed for the following
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons—Diesel (TPH-D) EPA 8015M,
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) EPA 8020, and
• Methyl tert-Butyl Ether(MTBE) EPA 5030
Water samples collected from MW I — MW3 were analyzed for the above listed contaminants
along with
• TTLC Lead EPA 7420
The analytical program described above was designed to meet requirements of the RWQCB for
• clean closure of USTs Table I below presents a summary of the final analytical program for the
investigation
11SERVERIIC-DRIVEIPRO]ECTSL32721P1ans and Reports\ABF Freight Site Characterization Closure Report doe 11/17/99
