A label has been developed to meet these
requirements based on your location (see example on page 2). These labels should be
affixed to all Hazardous Waste containers and include the department and date waste accumulation
begins. If you have questions, please refer to the SGMF Waste Policy in PolicyStat for more
information.
Print and affix the Hazardous Waste label to all RCRA (black) and Chemotherapy (yellow) waste
containers. Be sure to add the start date and the department name.
Keep the lid closed when not adding or removing waste.
No sharps in the Hazardous Waste containers.
Always use the appropriate container for each waste stream. (refer to the Hazardous/Medical Waste
Handling Guide, Appendix D of the SGMF Waste Policy).
When the container is 3/14 full, lock the lid, apply the seal and indicate the end date on the label.
Enter a Facilities work request for Hazardous Waste/RCRA Removal.
If a spill occurs, refer to the Emergency Preparedness Procedures (red book) for CODE ORANGE.
Remember to practice S -I -N (Safety first, Isolate the area and Notify management/supervisor).
Contact the affiliate Safety representative, Ellie Fedi at (916) 413-9590 or the Safety Department Duty
Officer at (916) 887-7811
Please share with all employees and post in all areas that are directly involved in the generation,
accumulation and storage of hazardous waste.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the Facilities Dept. at Ext. 5201
See page 2 for sample label and Hazardous/Medical Waste Handling Guide.
1 Page
