Who is responsible? <br /> Prevent Disease Transmission <br /> Kaiser Permanente generates a number of different waste streams that are " medical waste" ❑ It protects KP employees, waste handlers and communities we serve from being exposed to <br /> potentially infectious materials. <br /> Medical Waste consists of: <br /> ❑ Biohazardous Waste Regulatory Compliance <br /> ❑ Pathology Waste ❑ Medical waste management must be properly collected for treatment and disposal. Improper <br /> ❑ Infectious Laboratory Waste management can result in regulatory citations and financial penalties. <br /> ❑ Trace Chemotherapeutic Waste <br /> ❑ Sharps Waste Affordability and Environmental Stewardship <br /> ❑ Non-Hazardous Pharmaceutical Waste ❑ The cost of treatment and disposal of each medical waste type varies; improperly treating medical <br /> ❑ Commingled Sharps and Non-hazardous Pharmaceutical Waste waste can result in unnecessary costs AND unnecessary environmental impact as treatment and <br /> disposal processes use lots of water and energy. <br /> This presentation will explain what is required to manage each one of these waste streams. The person that generates the medical waste (for example, nurse, physician , lab tech) Is responsible <br /> for knowing how to properly dispose of each type of medical waste generated from theirjob duties. <br /> The medical waste generator is responsible for disposing of the medical waste into its designated <br /> Note that, If you are involved in the packaging, shipping and transport of medical waste (for container at the point of generation. <br /> instanc"ou work in the EVS department) , you will need to take additional DOT training on KP <br /> Learn : DOT Regulated Medical Waste Function Specific Training.
