Hazardous Waste Quick Reference Guide 8 May 2019

Labeling Totes Properly

1. Complete the store number and address.

2. DO NOT add the accumulation date to
the label until the first item is placed
in the tote. From this date you may store
the waste on-site no longer than 6 months
before it must be picked up by our vendor.

3. As waste is placed in the container,
the type of waste being added must
be checked off on the label.

Be sure to circle the appropriate waste
“physical state.” (See circled physical
state on label.)

4. After a waste pick-up, the labels
must be removed from the totes and
thrown away.

Labels must never be re-used.

Maintaining Totes
 Totes must be kept clean and residue-free, inside and out.
 Inspect totes regularly for cracks, broken lids and other damage.
 All totes must have fully latching lids.
 Damaged totes must be removed and replaced.

Waste Pickups
Waste is typically picked up on a pre-set schedule, but the dates can vary. You can enter a
request for pickup in Office Trax (Dollar Tree) or the Store Portal (Family Dollar). You must enter
the reason for the request (e.g., full totes or follow-up from an inspection) and how many totes
need to be picked up.
1212
