Box 1109
Ripon, CA 95336
SUBJECT: Manure Management Plan for SKS Enterprises,23709 E Brandt Road,Lodi,
CA 95240
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD)received the third revision to
the Manure Management Plan(MMP) for the SKS Enterprises Poultry Ranch at 23709 E Brandt
Road, Lodi on March 14, 2006.
The EHD has reviewed the MMP and has the following comments:
1. The MMP refers to a part of the operation as woody barn birds. Please use a numbering
or identification system for each house or group of houses.
2. The MMP describes the composting operation and the ratio of manure to carbon source
(wood shavings). The site personnel have informed the EHD that the manure to carbon
source ratio is more like one to one. Revise to reflect actual site operations.
3. The MMP indicates that the composting operation will be able to compost 88 cubic
yards per day. What changes to the facility will occur that will allow the additional
manure to be composted and when will those changes be implemented.
4. The MMP states that Unit# 6 is cleaned weekly. Unit# 6 is the high house and is only
cleaned once a year. Please clarify and explain the process stated in the MMP regarding
Unit# 6
5. The MMP does not indicate that there is a smaller lagoon that the liquid manure is
dumped into and then pumped to the larger lagoon. The map indicates that there is a pit
located behind Honen# 9, but the MMP does not describe how the pit or smaller lagoon
is used in the operation. Revise to include a description of the smaller lagoon/pit.
6. The MMP uses cubic yards as a measurement to describe the amount of chicken manure
generated by some of the chicken houses. The MMP then uses tons to describe the
amount of manure generated by other houses. Revise to include a conversion of tons to
cubic yards for the manure generated by the chicken houses. If there is a significant
difference in the density between the types of houses then the EHD would ask that you
provide a conversion for each.
