Gaitan, Jason [EHD]
From: Darlan Ribeiro <dribeiro@guntert.com>
Sent: Thursday, October 1, 2020 10:53 AM
To: Gaitan, Jason [EHD]
Cc: Matt Sterling;Jan Scholl
Subject: RE: Corrective actions photos 9/28/20 and scanned Statement
Follow Up Flag: Follow up
Flag Status: Flagged
CAUTION:This email is originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the
sender and know the content is safe.
Hi Jason,
We contacted the current hauler for our waste oil, but they do not have any information about used filters
from our facility. Further investigation of the issue leads me to believe the filters were perforated and sent to
be recycled as scrap metal.
I have contacted both the maintenance manager and the plant manager and informed them that this process
is incorrect and it needs to be immediately changed. We will handle used filters as scrap metal but they will be
stored in a sealed steel drum after all the oil has been drained out of them. We will store them in such
container for an accumulation period of up to one year.
I instructed them not to allow paper filters, fibrous filters, plastic filters to be included in the barrel to be
recycled. (It will be dedicated to filters that have a steel capsule only). Fibrous and other non-metal filters will
not be sent to recycling. They will be handled as hazardous material and disposed accordingly.
The debris from the clean-up of our used oil tank was collected and it is in a steel barrel waiting to be shipped
as Diatomaceous earth clean-up, our profile that indicates used oil plus absorbent medium. It will be handled
as hazmat material. The same process was used for the clean-up around the saw area, namely: the debris was
collected and it is in a hazmat barrel waiting for shipment as hazmat waste.
I hope this answers your questions, and I apologize for the initial information I gave you. I stand corrected.
Respectfully,
Darlan Ribeiro
EHS/Quality Manager
The Guntert Companies
G&Z I Guntert Steel
222 East Fourth Street
Ripon, CA 95366
phone: (209) 599-0066 ext. 271
cell (209) 253-9530
i
